Leadership Through Collaboration and Advocacy - Andrea Holowka
After being hired by Gary Strother into a superintendent role in 2014, he strongly encouraged me to participate fully in CASS. Although I was surrounded by immense superintendent knowledge and experience in my own school division, I did as he suggested and committed to attending mentorship sessions, zone meetings and annual conferences. I quickly learned the value of learning from colleagues from across the province and understanding the commonalities of our challenges as well as gleaning knowledge and processes that were effective in other boards for use in my own practice. Most importantly, I learned from a dear Zone 5 colleague, Scott Morrison, of the importance of the superintendent role and how we can collectively leverage the direction and quality of education within the province. Scott continues to be a role model for me in my continued leadership journey, in how to lead with integrity, intelligence and compassion with each person and in every decision made.
